Far as the Curse is Found, Chapter 3: Creation

“The creation story warns Israel against narrowing the scope of God’s concern to itself alone. Yahweh will not be reduced to a mere tribal deity (even the tribe of the elect). The creation narrative conveys the cosmic proportions within which the story of Israel is to be placed. The biblical world is not just a world of persons, nor is its story limited to divine-human encounters. The dimensions of the biblical story are as wide as the universe, for the biblical God is the maker of all things” (59).
